WASHINGTON, Wed Nov 5, (bdnews24.com/Reuters) - Barack Obama rode a wave of voter discontent to a historic White House victory, promising change as the first black US president but facing enormous challenges from a deep economic crisis and two lingering wars.

Obama led Democrats to a sweeping victory that expanded their majorities in both houses of Congress as Americans emphatically rejected President George W. Bush's eight years of leadership.

AFP, BEIJING - China's central bank has pledged to continue international cooperation to tackle the global financial crisis and maintain market stability, according to state media.

The pledge on Friday came after China this week joined the US Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank and other major central banks to cut interest rates in response to the global financial turmoil and fears of a domestic slowdown.
