REUTERS, KUWAIT- Inflation-hit Kuwait is considering raising the minimum wage to 40 dinars ($151) after Bangladesh workers staged a strike demanding better pay, state news agency KUNA reported. The Kuwaiti government reached an agreement with the workers on Monday to end a three-day strike over pay and working conditions against a backdrop of soaring inflation, which exceeded 11 percent in April and May. |

Local Polls Staff Correspondent The home ministry announced Wednesday that no one will be permitted to move about carrying firearms, including licensed guns, to be enforced in election areas a day ahead of the city corporation and municipal polls until the day after. "In the interest of public security, the government hereby proscribes all movements carrying licenced firearms in the election areas starting 02 August midnight till 05 August midnight," said a home ministry circular issued Wednesday. |

A fall in share prices of insurers, banks and mutual funds also influenced Wednesday's trading. A sharp fall in the benchmark DGEN or general index marked the day's opening. It however returned from losses immediately before maintaining a downward curve across the trading session. It lost 24.57 points or 0.86 percent to end on 2801.42. |

AP, NEW YORK -- Oil prices are slightly higher, hovering near $123 a barrel, after the government reported that U.S. gasoline supplies fell unexpectedly last week while crude stockpiles fell less than expected. Light, sweet crude for September delivery is up 74 cents at $122.93 a barrel in morning trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract had fallen below $121 a barrel earlier in the day. |

The High Court has recently struck down two ordinances signed by the President on the contention that the Emergency Government "has no authority to enact any law which is not related to election and emergency issues". With a view to controlling and streamlining such appointments, the ministry of health has almost finalized a set of guidelines to this effect. When approved, the foreign doctors and nurses would have to take registration from the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council and the Directorate of Nursing respectively for being employed in any local private health facility in the country. |
