Unidentified gunmen shot dead a businessman and a taxi driver in separate incidents in the city on Friday, police said.

Businessman Jasimuddin, 42, was killed in Sabujbagh while taxi driver Rakib Hossain Abu, 28, in Kafrul.

Sub-inspector Ashraf Ali of Kafrul Police Station told bdnews24.com that some gunmen opened fire at Rakib at around 2:30pm while he was drinking tea at his father Yunus Ali's stall in East Kazipara.

Rakib's nephew Mosharraf Hossain told bdnews24.com that the killing might have been the result of previous enmity.

Victim's father Yunus Ali filed a case in this connection.

Sub-inspector Rawshan Ara of Sabujgabh Police Station said that Jasimuddin was gunned down in the early hours of Friday in front of his house in Sabujbagh.

Jasimuddin's elder brother Sharifuddin filed a case.

bdnews24.com correspondent contacted Jasimuddin's cousin Masud Alam. But Masud could not give any reason for the killing.

SI Rawshan Ara said that Jasimuddin was an accused in a murder case. But his name was later dropped from the charge sheet, she said.
