The Chittagong Hill Management Committee asked government agencies on Monday to shift people, living in illegal structures on the slopes of the city's at-risk hills, within three weeks, an official said.

The directive, to protect the most at-risk from hillslides, came from a committee meeting at the local circuit house.
Additional deputy commissioner (revenue) and Hill Management Committee member secretary, Jafar Alam told that Bangladesh Railway, Chittagong WASA, Public Works Department and Police Department owned most of the vulnerable hill land.
The agencies concerned have been asked to shift illegal shanty dwellers and take necessary steps to protect the hills.
Jafar Alam said a technical committee had been also formed to decide what measures could be taken to protect the hills.
Dr Mozammel Haque, former vice chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, has been appointed chairman of the technical committee.
