The speakers at a seminar organized by the High Commissioner of Pakistan in Bangladesh and the Chittagong Chamber held at the Chittagong Chamber auditorium yesterday stressed the need for inking a bilateral free trade agreement and formation of joint trade facilitation committee, formation of special fund aiming at increasing contacts among the exporters and cooperation of tourism and agri-sectors to increase volume of trade between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Chittagong Chamber President Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and Dr, Safdar A Sohail, Director General of Foreign Trade Institute of Pakistan presented keynote papers at the seminar.

Highlighting the different aspects of the proposed free trade agreement the Chamber President underscored the need for raising the bilateral trade to one billion dollars and asked for non-tariff entrance of 73 Bangladeshi items of 9 categories into Pak markets.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sohail said the activities of Safta are so short that time is yet to come to realize its utility. The seminar was attended among others by Mahbub Alam, Mrs. Rubina Toufoq Shah, Mahfuzul Hoq Shah and Engineer Ali Ahmed.
