Scores of adulterated food producing firms have begun to surface in Chittagong with an eye to making profit in the holy month of Ramadan.

The targeted locations of these dishonest traders are city's Chaktai, Khatungonj, Asadgonj and some other areas.

In the meantime, the firms have started producing very poor quality ghee, vermicelli, noodles, powder of pepper , tarmeric and other spices.

According to sources, the dishonest syndicates are eyeing huge illegal profit from producing and marketing such products in this month.

Very recently, police raids at different areas including Khatungonj and Hathazari have helped dig out such illegal factories and arrest 9.

Investigation reveals that most of these seasonal establishments have come up at commercially important places including Chaktai, Khatungonj, Asadgonj and the surroundings.

These use harmful chemicals as tallow to make their products. Besides rotten pepper powder, paddy husk, brick powder and red color are being used to make pepper powder.

Experts believe, lever and lung may be seriously affected for eating these poor quality food.

Other sources said, these illegal traders maintain liaison with law enforcers who give them the chance of running this illegal trade in exchange of bribe.

The traders develop good relation with local hoodlums and influentials who help them build up their illegal power in the area.
