Oath-taking ceremony on Sep 11

]Khulna and Rajshahi mayors-elect Talukder Abdul Khaleque and AHM Khairuzzaman Liton resigned their Awami League posts on Thursday ahead of their oath-taking ceremony to take place by Sep 11, government officials said.

They sent in their resignation to acting AL chief Zillur Rahman and general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam by post.
 
Khaleque also passed on a copy of his resignation to Md Rois Uddin, director of the Local Government Division for Khulna. Rois Uddin said 25 councillors-elect of Khulna city also handed in copies of their resignations from their parties.
 
Liton handed in a copy of his resignation to the divisional commissioner with an affidavit on his assets, said Korban Ali, chief executive officer of Rajshahi City Corporation.
 
40 councillors-elect handed in copies of their resignations and affidavits providing wealth information to the divisional commissioner and chief executive officer of Rajshahi City Corporation.
 
The divisional commissioner will send the resignation letters to the chief election commissioner and the Local Government Division secretary.
 
Earlier in the day, LGRD adviser Anwarul Iqbal said all mayors and councillors-elect in four city corporations would be sworn in by Sept 11.
 
The Local Government Division on Tuesday issued a notice for resignations in line with the Local Government (City Corporation) Ordinance 2008.
