Abdullah Al Mamun laid to rest

Playwright, actor and filmmaker Abdullah Al Mamun was buried at 3:30pm on Friday at Banani graveyard.

He was laid to rest in the grave of his wife Farida Mamun who died in 1984. His children, relatives, friends and colleagues were present during the burial.
 
A number of organisations placed bouquets at his grave.
 
Earlier, hundreds of people from across the social spectrum attended the namaj-e-janaza at the Dhaka University central mosque at 2pm.
 
His body was taken there from the Central Shaheed Minar at 12:30pm.
 
Fans, colleagues and well-wishers flocked to the Minar and offered flowers to pay their last respects.
 
Mamun's coffin was taken there from the BIRDEM mortuary at 10am. Group Theatre Federation, of which Mamun was an integral part, and Shammilito Shangskritik Jote jointly organised the public event.
 
Awami League leaders Abdur Razzak, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta, JSD general secretary Jafar Sajjad and representatives from other political and cultural organisations went to the Shaheed Minar.
 
Mamun died aged 65 on Thursday at the BIRDEM hospital after a prolonged illness caused by a stroke.
