Dollar up, gold down in Europe

AP, LONDON -- The U.S. dollar rose Friday against most major currencies in European trading. Gold prices fell.

The 15-nation euro fell to $1.5528, down from $1.5593 late Thursday in New York.

Other dollar rates at midday in Europe compared with late rates Thursday included: 107.60 Japanese yen, down from 107.90; 1.0491 Swiss francs, up from 1.0478, and 1.0293 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0235

The British pound was quoted at $1.9743, down from $1.9829.

Gold traded in London at $909.50 per troy ounce, down from $918 Thursday.
