The new British high commissioner to Bangladesh, Stephen Evans, is scheduled to arrive in the capital Monday, said an official of the high commission in Dhaka.

On his new posting, the high commission quoted Evans as saying: "Our futures are inter-linked in so many ways."

"And there is a unique thread running through each aspect of our relationship – it is the people of our two countries, bound by deep personal and historical ties and our shared values."

"I look forward to extending this close friendship even further," said Evans.

A career diplomat, Evans previously served as British ambassador to Afghanistan, and as British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, said a high commission statement.

Prior to being appointed as high commissioner to Bangladesh, he was the head of the South Asia Department at the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

"The new high commissioner arrives tomorrow," William Arnall-Culliford, head of the high commission's press and public affairs, told Sunday.

Evans is married with a son and two daughters.
