They said over 12 percent of the total population are engaged in unhygienic and unsafe work which is an obstacle to creating skilled and energetic workforce.

The press conference was organised jointly by OSI and Jatiya Sramik Sangaton at Chittagong Press Club. This year the theme of the day is 'Secured and hygienic workplace needed for healthy life, production and development'.

Speakers at the conference said to build a developed and prosperous country skilled and industrious workforce is a must, and to make a skilled and industrious workforce hygienic, secured and well-organised workplace is also necessary.

Loss of limbs is a normal picture in the occupational sector due to lack of healthcare service and ventilation, adequate maternal and other leave, child labour and risky jobs, they said.

They said government's willingness, positive attitude of the owners and awareness of the workers can change the present scenario of workplaces.
