Implementation of BBF recommendations needed

Chief Adviser, Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed, has recently directed all ministries, departments, and organizations concerned to implement the recommendations of the Better Business Forum on priority basis. The BBF, a platform of high-profile government-businesspeople, on Wednesday elaborately discussed over 100 recommendations for improving business and investment atmosphere in the country. He said necessary monitoring and evaluation would be carried out to supervise whether the decisions are implemented. This is highly important. In past cases, we have seen that there are many recommendations and decisions. But almost none of them are implemented properly. Proper business atmosphere can be a solution to price spiral. The people are extremely hard hit by the high prices of essential commodities including rice. The government is trying its best to arrest rising prices and keep hunger at bay. But we are sorry to say that the steps have been little effective. The BBF recommendations will hopefully yield some welcome results. The recommendations include expansion of tax holiday, providing tax facility, simplification of company registration, trade license, and VAT and environment certificates, reduction of bank interest and development of work efficiency. The country rating regarding business will also be improved and the image of the country enhanced. For all these very important reasons, everybody concerned should immediately attach top priority to implementation of the recommendations. The recommendations are rightly divided into three groups—matters for immediate action, matters for short-term action, and matters for midterm action. Management and financing of Small and Medium Enterprise have been rightly given due importance in this action plan. We must have to improve our business and investment atmosphere.
