Plea to increase food production

Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for ministries of Social Welfare and Post and Telecommunications Brig Gen (retd) MA Malek stressed the need for taking steps to encourage farmers in boosting production of foodgrains, reports agency.

The special assistant said, “The global scenario now demands increased domestic production of foodgrains to meet the requirements.”

“The global food deficit prompted the government to pay an extra attention to increase domestic production,” he said while addressing an opinion exchange meeting with local officials, professionals and distinguished people of the district at the deputy commissioner’s office.

Malek said the country is expecting a bumper production of boro in view of the steps for the increased production, but the trend should continue with serious interventions of the concerned government and private organisations.

The special assistant also called for a simultaneous and intensified family planning campaign to check population boom against the backdrop of dwindling agricultural land.
