Body formed to probe price hike of MS rod

A seven-member probe committee headed by the secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works has been formed to investigate the causes of abnormal price hike of the MS rod, reports agency.

The committee was asked to submit its report by April 30 next after finding out the causes of the price hike, identifying problems and making recommendations, an official handout said in the city on Tuesday.

The committee would collect information by visiting concerned organisations, industries, markets and other important places, said the handout. Members of the committee are: a joint secretary of the Industries Ministry, a member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Chittagong Sector Commander of the joint forces Brig Gen Mohammad Hasan Nasir, Commodore M Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan of Chittagong Newmooring Dockyard, a representative of the Federation of the Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) and joint secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works M Nurun Nabi Talukdar, who is the member secretary of the committee.

The decision of forming the committee was taken at an emergency meeting of the Commence Ministry on April 17 last. Commerce and Education Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman presided over the meeting, the handout said.
