IOs urged to disseminate info about dev activities properly

Secretary of the Information Ministry Jamil Osman Monday urged the information officials to develop their professional skills for disseminating information about government policies and development activities among people in a coordinated manner, reports agency.

“The job and responsibility of the information officials are immense,” Jamil said while addressing an inaugural function of a two-week training programme for the information officials at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) in the city.

A total of 32 public relation officials under the various departments of the Ministry of Information are participating in the training.

Chaired by Director General of the PIB Mohammad Nazrul Islam, NDC, the function was also addressed by Principal Information Officer (PIO) Iftekhar Husain.

Chairman of the Press Council Kazi Ebadul Haq, Additional Secretary of the Information Ministry Md Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury, Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury and Director General of the Department of Films and Publication (DFP) Sanat Kumar Biswas, among others, were present.

Jamil Osman said for checking corruption through ensuring transparency and accountability in the era of globalisation, the right to information act will be enforced soon. The government has already published the draft act on the right to information, he added.

The PIO said there is no alternative to training for developing the skill.
