Bangladesh axe ex-captain Bashar for South Africa testSports Reporter

Bangladesh have axed veteran batsman and former captain Habibul Bashar from the 12-man squad selected for the second and final test against South Africa starting in Chittagong on Friday.

Rajin Saleh, who was rested for the first test, has been drafted into the side to replace Bashar.

The 34-year-old Bashar has played in all but two of Bangladesh's 52 matches since they were promoted to a test-playing nation in 2000, hitting three centuries and 24 fifties.

However, his last half-century came two years ago against Australia in Fatullah, Bangladesh.

"Though he (Bashar) is experienced, he is suffering from a lack of runs," Bangladesh coach Jamie Siddons told reporters on Thursday. South Africa lead the two-match series 1-0 after sealing a five-wicket victory in Dhaka on Monday.
