A senior technician of pathology ward at Suhrawardy Hospital was found dead at his residence in the city's Agargaon area Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Pallab Sen Gupta, 45, son of late Naresh Sen Gupta, of Ishwarganj in Mymensingh.

The Tejgaon police quoting neighbours said Pallab along with his 10-year- old mentally retarded son Partha Sen Gupta was at Agargaon Staff Quarters residence Sunday night while his wife Anju Rani Dutt, a senior staff nurse of Orthopaedics Hospital, was on duty.

Sonia, a tenant, found the door locked from the outside and the body of Pallab hanging with the ceiling fan at the guestroom of the house at around 10:00am. His hands, legs and mouth were tied with Scotch-tape.

As local people informed the police of the incident, a team of Tejgaon police station led by sub-inspector Younus Ali went to the scene and recovered the body.

Later the body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. 'Unidentified assailants might have hung the body with the ceiling fan after killing him and tying up his hands, legs and mouth with Scotch-tape,' sub-inspector Younus Ali told this correspondent.

The assailants also pushed huge cotton into his mouth. Motives behind the killing couldn't be ascertained immediately. One of his colleagues said , 'Pallab had no rivalry in his professional life, and the incident might have taken place over personal affair or family quarrel.'

Anju Rani Dutt on Monday afternoon filed a murder case with the Tejgaon police station against some unnamed persons. She alleged that her husband was killed centring personal or official affairs as most of his colleagues used to visit their residence at night when she was on duty.

The duty officer of the Tejgaon police station said several teams were conducting raids in the city to nab the suspects.
