A Dhaka court on Sunday issued warrants for arrest of former state minister for law Shahjahan Omar, his wife Mehjabin Farhana Omar and son Adnan Omar in connection with a corruption case.

Dhaka metropolitan sessions judge M Azizul Haque also issued a warrant for arrest of former Awami League lawmaker Kamal Ahmed Majumder's wife Sahida Kamal in connection with another corruption case.

The court posted for March 2 the hearing in both the cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission on charge of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income and hiding assets in the wealth statements submitted to the commission.

The commission lodged the case against Omar and his family with the Ramna police on September 9, 2007 and filed the charge sheet with the court on February 20.

The family were also shown fugitive in the charge sheet. Omar was accused of amassing wealth of Tk 2.06 crore through illegal means during the BNP-led alliance government by abusing power and concealing information of wealth of Tk 40 lakh in his statement submitted to the commission.

His wife and son were accused of abetting him in committing the offences. The commission sued Kamal Ahmed Majumder and his wife on charge of owning wealth of Tk 10 core beyond their known sources of income and hiding assets worth Tk 7.19 crore in the wealth statement.

The charge sheet in the case was filed with the court on February 20. Kamal was arrested by the joint forces in late January 2007. His wife is in hiding, the commission said in the charge sheet.
