Wholesalers Blame Retailers
Saturday, 25 December 2010

Retailers have held the wholesalers responsible for the sudden rise in onion price.

The government however thinks that India's ban on onion export has influenced the market which will take sometime to stabilise.

In local markets, price of onion suddenly shoot by Tk 20 per kg in last three days following the price increase in India.

In Dhaka, onions sold at Tk 60-75 per kg on Friday which sold at Tk 40-45 per kg on Wednesday.

Retailers claimed they were to purchase onions at a much higher rate since India imposed a ban on onion export on Tuesday. The ban came as onion price in India became double the earlier rate in last few days.

Local wholesalers, however, alleged that retailers were to blame for the instability in the onion market.
