Cantt House Goods Shifted to Baridhara House
Saturday, 04 December 2010

Removal of belongings at Khaleda Zia's Cantonment house began on Friday and it would take perhaps another day to clear out all items.

According to eyewitnesses, household goods collected from the house on 6 Mainul Road were shifted to a rented house in Baridhara and another house in Dhanmondi.

The shifting began just after 10:15 am and until 7 pm on Friday four covered and pick-up vans moved bulk of the items under the supervision of Khaleda's two sisters-in-law.

They, along with Khaleda's private secretary A S M Saleh Ahmed, went to the house in the morning and started the shifting in presence of cantonment board officials.

A lawyer for the former prime minister, who preferred not to be named, told bdnews24.com that a house has been rented on Road 12 in Baridhara for storing the household goods.

Khaleda's brother and former MP Syed Eskander's residence at Baridhara and her elder son Tarique Rahman's in-law's house is at Dhanmondi.

The lawyer, however, refused to say whether the house at Dhanmondi where a portion of the goods have been shifted, belonged to Tarique's in-laws.

He said the shifting will continue until Saturday. "It is not possible to move all the stuff accumulated over 38 years in one day."

On Nov 13, the Cantonment Board took possession of the house when Khaleda was allegedly forced out following a High Court verdict. She has since been at her younger brother Shamim Eskander's Gulshan residence.

The government, however, denied she was evicted.
