Tuku Blames Khaleda For Mass-Arrest
Monday, 29 November 2010

Home state minister Shamsul Haque Tuku has held opposition chief Khaleda Zia responsible for the mass-arrests around the country.

He said this on Monday following a meeting on Bishwa Ijtema Law and Order at the ministry.

Tuku alleged that Khaleda put to risk the lives of 'fresh' Juba Dal activists by calling the strike. He also said that the act was not worthy of a politician, adding that those who called the strike want to create anarchy and soil democracy.

However, the state minister claimed that the arrests were made against specific allegations.

After the meeting home minister Shahara Khatun told the reporters that the Istema authorities had proposed holding the Akheri Munajat in two spells, during the upcoming Bishwa Istema between Jan 21 and 23.

She also said that the authorities were requested to hold the event in one day instead for the sake of law and order. Moreover, different service-oriented organisations and the city corporation were also directed accordingly.

Home secretary, and the inspector general of police, among other high-profile officials, attended the meeting.
