PM Says Many Steps Taken to Counter Terrorism
Monday, 18 October 2010

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has said that a large number of steps have been taken to eradicate terrorism, and that stricter steps will be taken if needed.

She was speaking at a programme to mark the 47th birth anniversary of her youngest brother Sheikh Rasel, at the capital's Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Monday.

Ten-year old Sheikh Rasel was killed along with his family members at Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's residence, at Dhanmondi's road 32, on Aug 15, 1975. He was a grade four student of Dhaka University Laboratory School.

The programme was organised by Sheikh Rasel Jatiya Shishu Kishor Parishad and included discussions and prize giving to students who have achieved GPA-5 in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams and those who topped the drawing competition.

Hasina questioned the motive behind killing a ten-year old and said, "We will not allow terrorism to bloom in the country anymore."

She also pointed out that no one was willing to leave some free space for the children, and that everyone was busy building flats and apartments. She urged developers to keep space for children to play.

The prime minister also ordered the related authorities to take strict measures for the recovery of encroached children parks.
