A clash between police and army recruit candidates under the players quota has left at least 30 people injured in Savar.

The clash took place at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratishtan on Monday.

Sub-inspector Syed Azharul Islam, Chakrabarti Police camp under Joydevpur Police Station told bdnews24.com said that on Sep 21, the primary player selection test for 13 categories was held at the Army Stadium.

Only 214 candidates among 500, who passed the selection test, were later called to sit for the final recruitment test.

However, candidates who did not take part in the primary test also came to sit for final exam on Monday.

When they were not allowed to enter the examination hall, they began to demonstrate, set up a blockade and vandalised a number of vehicles on the Nabinagar-Kaliakoir highway at around 10 am. The demonstrators also set an army pick-up van on fire. The fire service from Dhaka Export Processing Zone brought the fire under control.

When the police came to the spot and tried to disperse demonstrators, the clash ensued. Later extra police force was called in to bring the situation under control.
