BDR Court Frame Charges against 622 Rebels
Monday, 18 October 2010

Proceedings have begun at a special tribunal at the Peelkhana headquarters of the Bangladesh Border Forces, to frame charges against 623 BDR men.

Of the BDR men being tried, one of the accused had died earlier and had been relieved of the charges.

The hearing commenced at Special Court-8, headed by Brig Gen Obaidul Haque, around 10am on Monday.

The court took a short break around 11.30am after the prosecutor Lt Col Akhter Hamid Khan had submitted charges against the 622 accused.

After the court resumed, the charges were read out. The court adjourned around 2.30pm and will resume at 10am on Tuesday.

Among the accused are 315 men from the 13 Rifles Battalion and the remainder from other attached battalions.

The men had been told to present themselves before the court in the same get-up they were in during the Feb 25-26 mutiny, so that witnesses would not be confused.

This date was fixed at the previous hearing on April 17.
