Urea Laden Ship Sinking at Ctg Port
Wednesday, 13 October 2010

Water is leaking into a fertiliser-laden ship at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port through its keel.

Ocean Pearl, a Saint Kitts flag carrier, began to leak from around 2:30pm on Wednesday.

Ocean Pearl, with 8,000 tonnes of urea, arrived at Alpha Anchorage on Sep 3, port secretary Farhad Uddin said.

Chittagong deputy port conservator captain Nazmul Alam said a tugboat and both navy and coast guards have reached the spot to assist the ship.

'Captain and crew of the ship have been evacuated to safety."

Litmond Shipping Agent is the local agent of the sinking ship.
