Huji Leader Remanded Again
Monday, 06 September 2010

The police have been given five days to quiz militant group Harkat-ul-Jihad (Huji) leader Abu Jandal alias Moinuddin in the August 21 grenade attack case.

Dhaka Third Chief Metropolitan Magistrates' Court judge Mohammad Ali Hossain gave the order on Monday, following a plea from investigation officer Abdul Kahhar Akanda for seven days.

Moinuddin was earlier remanded for 14 days.

RAB had arrested the leading Huji militant on Feb 14, 2008 for his alleged links to the Aug 21, 2004, grenade attack on an Awami League rally.

At least 24 people, including Awami League leader Ivy Rahman, wife of president Zillur Rahman, lost their lives at Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka on that day in 2004. The attack left scores of people injured, including Hasina, the then opposition leader, who suffered severe hearing impairment.

Reinvestigation of the case is underway by court orders.
