Khaleda Starts Umra

Opposition leader and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has started performing her Umra at Mecca.

Khaleda reached Mecca on Friday night, her spokesperson Maruf Kamal Khan told

She has started to perform Umra on Saturday and will offer prayers at Masjidul Haram in the afternoon, said Khan.

Saudi Royal Protocol officials and BNP leaders in the country bid her farewell at the airport when she left Medina on Friday.

In Madina on Friday she prayed near the grave of prophet Mohammad (SM), offered Nabbit-e-Iftar and Tarabi prayer.

Khan said, "The opposition chief spent some time at the prophet's grave and prayed for the welfare of the people."

Khaleda Zia left Dhaka on a regular flight of Saudi Airlines on Monday and reached Medina via Jeddah at around 3am on Tuesday.

Eight others, including her younger brother Shamim Eskander, his wife Kaneez Fatema, younger son Arafat Rahman Coco's wife Syeda Sharmila Rahman, and her grand daughter Zahia Rahman, have accompanied Khaleda on her tour.

Khaleda will return home on Sep 9, Khan said.
