Warrants for Tax Evasion against Jamaat Leaders

A Dhaka court has issued warrants for the arrest of Jamaat-e-Islami executive committee members Delwar Hossain Sayedee and Mir Kashem Ali in two separate tax evasion cases.

Dhaka's Senior Special Judge's Court's acting judge Mohammed Ismail Hossain gave the order on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, National Board of Revenue's (NBR) deputy tax commissioner Mohammed Moniruzzaman and Masuma Khatun filed the charges with the court.

Following the hearing, the court issued the warrants.

Sayedee is accused of evading taxes amounting to Tk 50,46,812 between 2002-2010.

Mir Kashem Ali, former director of the Islami Bank, is said to have evaded taxes amounting to Tk 8,90,174 in the 2005-2006 fiscal year.

The court also asked related authorities to submit a report on the implementation of the warrants on Sep 16
