Thursday, 05 August 2010

The main opposition BNP is set to demonstrate at the capital's Muktangan on Thursday afternoon to protest against the prime minister's comment earlier in the week stating that the BNP chief Khaleda Zia should "admit her past crimes."

At the rally, scheduled to start at 4 pm, the opposition will also protest about the 'false cases' filed against the party's secretary general Khandker Delwar Hossain, standing committee member Rafiqul Islam Miah and vice president Shah Moazzem Hossain. It will also demand the release of detained BNP leader Mirza Abbas and other leaders

On Aug 1, prime minister Sheikh Hasina asked Khaleda to admit to her past crimes and bring her corrupt activities to an end.

The BNP secretary general Khandker Delwar Hossain and senior joint secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir have already protested about the prime minister's comments on their party's behalf.

BNP office secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed told bdnews24.com on Thursday, "BNP will protest the prime minister's comments that did not conform to political etiquette, through a demonstration. We will also demand withdrawal of false cases against our leaders and their release."

Juba Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal told bdnews24.com, "All of the metropolitan Juba Dal units have sent out invitations to join the demonstration."

The programme was announced on Aug 3.
