Tuesday, 03 August 2010

The Housing and public works department has demolished the illegally built extension of the Ramna Restaurant, in the capital's Ramna Park.

The demolishing started at 10am on Monday morning.

Workers from the housing and public works department began demolishing the illegal portion with sledge hammers and crowbars, in the presence of a magistrate and the police.

Housing and public works department magistrate Mohammed Akkramuzzaman told bdnews24.com that the restaurant authority was served a notice to demolish the extension of the restaurant on their own initiative. "However they did not take any steps," he said.

"The restaurant authority were given only half an hour to remove their belongings before the demolishing started on Monday," the magistrate added.

Curious onlookers gathered at the spot to watch the demolition.
