Monday, 26 July 2010

The probe committee has identified 11 persons directly involved in the question leak incident related to the recruitment test of assistant teachers for public high schools.

Of them, six persons were Bangladesh Government (BG) Press employees, one Public Service Commission (PSC) official and four outsiders.

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid revealed the information after receiving the report submitted by the probe committee on Sunday.

The committee found BG Press compositor Shahidul Islam Fakir, ATM Mustafa, binder Laboni Begum, Mohammad Hamidul Islam, assistant director Khandaker Mohammad Ali, proof reader Mohammad Abdul Jalil and PSC administrative officer Abdur Rauf to be directly involved in the leak.

The outsiders are Mahfuzur Rahman, principal of Kishoreganj Women's College in Nilphamari, 'Arif', Atiqul Islam and Shafiur Rahman.

'Arif', Atiqul and Shafiur reserved 'Bhinna Jagat', a guest house in Rangpur, from where police arrested 167 persons on July 8 over the incident.

Education ministry formed the five-member probe committee led by additional secretary of the ministry Mohammad SM Golam Faruk to investigate the incident on July 9.

The examination was scheduled for July 9 across the country but the leak forced the ministry to postpone it. Some 132,000 candidates were to take the test for the post of assistant teachers.

The 88-page report includes 15 recommendations to strengthen BG press security and management aimed at preventing recurrence of such incidents in future.

The minister urged home ministry, police administration and several agencies to identify and punish the persons connected to the question leak incident.

He wanted exemplary punishment of the persons connected to the incident so that no one dares to indulge in such activities in future.

"It would be dangerous for the nation to appoint teachers in such illegal way", Nahid said with worry, asking, "What would the next generations learn from those teachers?"
