Monday, 09 March 2009

A two-member FBI team arrived in Bangladesh on Sunday to assist in the Feb 25-26 BDR mutiny probe.

An American Centre spokesperson said a two-member team arrived in the afternoon from the Indian capital New Delhi.

Foreign minister Dipu Moni said earlier in the day that the advance team was coming "in response to our requests for assistance"

"They will assist in the investigation," the minister said.

She said the FBI would also provide forensic expertise to trace bodies of still-missing army officers.

The US agency would set its terms of reference working with the local investigation team, she said.

"The length of their stay will depend upon their work," added the minister.

The Bangladesh government sought help from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and the UK's Scotland Yard in the immediate aftermath of the Peelkhana mutiny.

Dipu Moni said a team from UK's Scotland Yard was also expected "soon".
