Verdict on Ershad phone graft case Dec 1Dhaka, Nov 23 ( – A Dhaka court is set to deliver verdict on Dec. 1 in a graft case against former president HM Ershad on charges of setting up digital telephone lines in 89 Upazila.

After the hearings on Sunday, Dhaka divisional special judge M Golam Motuza Majumder announced the date for the verdict 16 years after the case had been filed.

The Anticorruption Bureau filed the case against Ershad, former telecommunications minister Kazi Firoze Rashid and four others.

The other accused are former BTTB chairman late Maksud Ali Khan, former BTTB deputy general manager Shamsul Islam, who is on the run, manager Anwarul Kader and EXPO Trade owner Majid Chowdhury.

Firoze Rashid was later exempted from the charges.
