Primers to reach districts by Nov 15: NCTB

Primary school textbooks will be reach all districts by Nov 15, to ensure all students have textbooks on the first day of the forthcoming new year, said the National Curriculum and Textbook Board chairman Prof Mocchir Uddin on Thursday.

"As we want to provide the students with new textbooks for January, we'll distribute them to all districts by Nov 15, from where the books will reach schools via upazila authorities," the NCTB boss told bdnews24.com.
 
Prof Sirajul Haque, NCTB member (textbooks), told bdnews24.com that following existing rules, students of classes I and II will receive all new books and those of classes III, IV and V will get half new and the remainder used texts.
 
Preparations are on, he added, with a view to supplying 100 percent new textooks to all primary school students from 2010 onwards.
 
The NCTB is printing 4.82 crore books for primary students and 1.61 crore for ibtedayee madrasa students, Haque said.
 
He added that the board has just invited tenders for printing secondary school textbooks, which are expected to reach students in January.
