EC meets with AL

The Election Commission sat with the Awami League delegation Wednesday morning at the EC Secretariat, reports bdnews24.com.

The AL delegates led by Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury were there to discuss new electoral laws, amendments to the Representation of the People Order and registration of political parties.
 
Kicking off the dialogue, AL presidium member Tofail Ahmed said: "We are here to learn about the EC's latest position on amending the electoral laws. In our last meeting, we had agreed upon modifying a number of things."
 
"In addition to reminding them to effect the already agreed changes, we have come today to urge the EC to bring about changes in some further clauses of the election laws."
 
Chief Election Commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda said they would appraise the AL delegates of the latest changes effected to electoral laws.
 
Huda told reporters Tuesday that no further changes would be made to the RPO after it was amended and approved in principle by the advisory council for the second time Monday.
 
Wednesday's EC delegation also included commissioner Muhammad Sohul Hossain, secretary Muhammad Humayun Kabir, joint secretary (law) NI Khan and deputy secretary Jasmine Tully.
 
Other AL delegates were acting general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, Abdur Razzak, Tofail Ahmed, Motia Chowdhury, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and AL election coordination committee chief HT Imam
