BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia Sunday called for unity among nationalist forces to restore democracy, as two 'nationalist' parties approached BNP to join the 4-party alliance.

BNP office secretary Rizvi Ahmed told reporters at a press briefing: "Leaders of Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) and National Peoples' Party (NPP) met our chairperson today."
"Nationalist forces will have to be united to restore democracy and protect independence," Rizvi Ahmed said, quoting party chairperson.
Earlier in the day, Khaleda met with alliance sympathisers at pro-BNP journalist Shafiq Rehman's Iskaton home.
JAGPA leader Shafiul Alam Pradhan and NPP chairman Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu led their parties in the meeting. Both the parties propose joining the 4-party alliance.
"We have proposed being a part of 4-party alliance. I feel Khaleda Zia is not only the chairperson of BNP, but also the chairperson for nationalist forces, "Shafiul Alam Pradhan told reporters after the meeting.
Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu said: "We informed the chairperson of our interest. We think all nationalist forces need to be united now."
