In a bid to boost the Dhaka cricket the Bangladesh Cricket Board declared an enhanced grant and prize money for the Dhaka-based cricket clubs on Saturday.

Considering the fact that the Dhaka league is the lifeblood of the majority of cricketers of the country, the Board increased the grant for each club over three-fold than the last year's amount.

The top six clubs of the premier division cricket will receive a purse of Tk 7.5 lakh each against their last year's payment of Tk 2 lakh. This year each of the bottom six premier division clubs will receive a grant of Tk 5 lakh. In the 2006-2007 they got Tk 1.5 lakh.

Grants for the First, Second and Third Division clubs have also gone up two to three times compared to the last couple of seasons. The top ten sides of the first division will get Tk 3 lakh each, three times more than their last year's earnings.

Each of the top twelve second division teams will receive Tk 1 lakh, double that of their last season's money and the top eight of the third division will be given a purse of Tk 50,000, which was Tk 25,000 last year.

There is a significant increase in the prize money also. This year the premier league champions will scoop Tk 5 lakh and the runners-up will get Tk 4 lakh. For the first time the third-placed team will be given Tk 2 lakh as prize money.

Last year the amounts were Tk 2 lakh and Tk 1.5 lakh. All of the premier division Twenty20 Cricket teams will receive a purse of Tk 1 lakh each.

The first division cricket champions will take home Tk 2 lakh, double than that of their last year's total and the second and third division champions will get Tk 50,000. BCB president Maj Gen Sina Ibn Jamali, at an open discussion meeting with the representatives of the Dhaka premier and first division clubs on January 10, expressed his determination to revive domestic club cricket and also pledged to enhance the grants and prize money for the 2007-2008 leagues and tournaments.

The Board responded to the call of the time and announced the enhanced grants and prize money for the smooth and successful completion of all the Dhaka cricket leagues.
