United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-moon may arrive in Bangladesh, as early as Oct 1, on a two-day visit, the foreign affairs adviser said on Thursday.

"Secretary-general Ban Ki-moon will be visiting Bangladesh to be acquainted with the achievements and developments made on various issues by the caretaker government," Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said.

Iftekhar made the announcement during the chief adviser's press conference with the Bangladeshi media in New York.

However, the secretary-general's spokesperson Sorakobi Yges said to bdnews24.com in the evening, "There is no such information yet in our hand.

"If there is any program, there must be an official announcement."

"We don't know yet. If it is confirmed we will officially announce the programme of his visit to Bangladesh."

Chief adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed and the foreign adviser are attending the 63rd UN General Assembly at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
