Friday, 26 September 2008

Schedules of both national and upazila polls will be announced together in the first week of November, election commissioner M Sakhawat Hussain said on Thursday, reports bdnews24.com.

Speaking to reporters in his office at the EC Secretariat, the election commissioner said the electoral roll would be made final before Oct 12.

Jatiya Sangsad elections are set to be held on Dec 18 and upazila polls on Dec 24 and 28.

Sakhawat Hussain said: "If voting at any centre is postponed during the national polls, it will be held during the upazila polls.'

Any centres that are closed during the national polls will be kept open during upazila polls, he added.

He said postal ballots would be provided this year, in accordance with applications made by polling officers and presiding officers.

But it would not be possible to allow members of law enforcement agencies vote by postal ballot this time, he said.
