Bahrain praises Bangladeshi workers

Bahrain's foreign minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohamed Al-Khalifa has praised Bangladeshis working in his country, says an adviser, reports bdnews24.com.

During a bilateral meeting with foreign adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury at the sidelines of the 63rd United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Bahraini minister acknowledged the contribution of Bangladeshi workers to his country.

The foreign minister's praise comes in the wake of Middle Eastern countries Oman, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia taking legal action and deporting them for alleged violation of local laws.

"Sheikh Khalid appreciated the contribution of Bangladeshis to the Bahraini economy," Iftekhar said in a statement Thursday.

"[He] extended a very warm invitation to me to visit Bahrain and I accepted", the adviser said.

Iftekhar would visit Bahrain by the end of October, the statement said.
