Stocks end flat

Markets ended almost flat Monday, after trading in positive territory the previous day on announcement of a date for national polls.

Brokerage house officials said banks and insurers closed down along with mutual funds, which rose heavily on Sunday.

Meanwhile, power and non-bank financial institutions enjoyed gains.
Dhaka Stock Exchange's benchmark DGEN or general index edged up 9.11 points or 0.31 percent, finishing at 2866.34.
The DSI or all-share price index ended on 2418.03, up by 6.07 points or 0.2 5 percent.
The blue chip DSE-20 however, closed 3.85 points, or 0.16 percent lower at 2375.75.
Indices on the Chittagong Stock Exchange finished downbeat due to huge losses in mutual funds and blue chip shares.
The CSCX or selective categories index closed 6.71 points or 0.11 percent down at 5663.55. The CASPI or all-share price index finished at 8674.02, losing 9.67 points or 0.11 percent.
The bourse's blue chip CSE-30 slumped 23.58 points or 0.30 percent to close on 7597.97.
The DSE recorded turnover at Tk 4.01 billion—with 30,284,276 shares changing hands—down from Sunday's Tk 4.43 billion.
The port city's turnover, however, amounted to Tk 539.994 million the previous day through trading of 6,223,899 shares.
Of the traded 226 scrips on the DSE, 120 issues declined, 93 advanced and 13 remained unchanged.
Losers beat gainers on the CSE by 84 to 46, while 5 issues held steady.
Top in turnover on the DSE for the last five weeks, Titas Gas lost 4.43 percent to Tk 473.50.
The second in line, Grameen One: Scheme 2, ended on Tk 64.90, falling 1.51 percent.
First Security Bank which debuted Monday, finished at Tk 193.25.
AIMS 1st Mutual Fund declined 5.29 percent to Tk 16.29.
ACI closed at Tk 553.20, rising 1.76 percent.
Among the other scrips on the turnover board—ICB AMCL 2nd NRB Mutual Fund, Beximco Pharmaceuticals and Beximco—lost on selling pressure.
Summit Power and Prime Finance gained.
