Skysports.com broke news of Chimbonda's medical on Wednesday morning and now he has been joined by team-mate Tainio.

West Ham have signed Switzerland international Valon Behrami from Lazio in a £5m deal, reports BBC.

Behrami, 23, can play at right-back or on the right side of midfield and has signed a five-year contract.

He started all of Switzerland's games at Euro 2008 and the Hammers had to beat off interest from clubs in England and Germany to complete the deal.

AFP, LONDON - The future of Andrew Johnson at Everton appeared in doubt Wednesday after he missed a pre-season friendly at Preston amid reports the 26-year-old forward is poised to join Fulham.

Reports on Merseyside said Wigan and Sunderland were chasing Johnson but added Fulham were favourites to land his signature for around 10.5 million pounds (13 million euros) with Toffies' boss David Moyes needing cash to strengthen his squad.

REUTERS, MUMBAI- India's rupee and stock markets are expected to rise on Wednesday after the government won a confidence vote ensuring its immediate survival, with analysts expecting it could revive some of its stalled economic reforms.

But economists expected rallies to be short-lived as concerns about inflation nearing 12 percent, high oil prices, slowing economic growth and rising interest rates are likely to return to the fore now the political uncertainty had faded.

REUTERS, GENEVA- The United States is ready to cut its ceiling for trade-distorting farm subsidies to $15 billion a year to help unblock talks for a global trade deal, US Trade Representative Susan Schwab said on Tuesday.

The long-awaited offer was contingent on other partners at the World Trade Organization making offers to open up their markets for agricultural and industrial goods, Schwab said.

REUTERS, HONG KONG - Oil prices on Wednesday slipped $20 below an all-time high hit two weeks ago, helping to lift Asian stocks and weigh on government bonds as investors cautiously reached for higher returns as well as more risk.

Crude was trading around $128.38 a barrel after having closed on Tuesday at its lowest since June 5 partly on fears about waning U.S. demand.

Reuters, United Nations- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday released details of a letter he received from Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah outlining his group's conditions for further prisoner deals with Israel.

Last week the leader of the Lebanese guerrilla group made a rare public appearance in Beirut to welcome five Lebanese released from captivity in Israel after Hezbollah returned the bodies of two captured Israeli soldiers.

Reuters, Washington- Two leading US Democrats said on Tuesday they are investigating whether Food and Drug Administration knowingly allowed the sale of Ranbaxy drugs that may have been backed by fraudulent data.

The congressional investigation stems from information released as part of a probe by US law enforcement authorities into whether the Indian drugmaker submitted false data to support generic drug applications and tried to hide manufacturing violations, the lawmakers said.
