Sheikh Hasina's personal physician Syed Modasser Ali lashed out at additional attorney general Mansur Habin for his statement in court opposing the former prime minster's bail.

"The additional attorney general should apologise to the nation for such a statement made in a court of law. He gave wrong information," Modasser Ali said at a press briefing at Mujibunnesa Eye Hospital in Dhanmondi.

The Anticorruption Commission has yet to conclude primary investigations on the wealth statements of former prime minsters Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia, a senior ACC official said, reports bdnews24.com.

ACC director general (administration) colonel Hanif Iqbal told reporters that a news report published on Thursday regarding the commission's findings was unsubstantiated.

The FBCCI, the country's apex trade body, has said they businesses urged former prime ministers Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia to sit together for the sake of business, reports bdnews24.com.

"I think he (Syed Ashraful Islam) is right. Businesspersons should do business and lawyers practice law. But we get worried when politics hurt business," Annisul Huq, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, told bdnews24.com on Thursday.

Language Movement leader and Independence War veteran Quamruzzaman died on Thursday at the age of 81 after prolonged illness, his family said.

A former member of the Awami League presidium, he was one of the nine members of the All-Party Students Action Committee in 1952 that led the bloody campaign establishing Bangla as the state language.

The US government's Diversity Visa (DV) Programme-2010 starts on October 2, an US embassy official said on Thursday.

People could apply online for the DV programme between October 2 (10pm Bangladesh time) and December 1 (9pm Bangladesh time), Laurie Trost, first secretary and consul of the US embassy in Dhaka, said at a news conference at the National Press Club auditorium.

The Election Commission is readying over 40,000 polling centres countrywide, ahead of Jatiya Sangsad and Upazila polls in December, with some 4,000 'political stronghold' centres facing dissolution and replacement, say election officials.

Reuters, Mumbai- Tata Motors, India's top vehicle maker, has started moving equipment from its factory in West Bengal, the Times of India newspaper said on Wednesday, as the company scrambles to launch the ultra-cheap Nano car as planned.

Tata Motors, which had planned to launch the Nano around October, had suspended work at the plant in Singur earlier this month due to violent protests by farmers unhappy with the compensation offered for their land.
