Chief adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed is expected to speak about the upcoming elections, the state of emergency and political dialogue in an address to the nation 'very soon', an adviser said Wednesday, reports bdnews24.com.

"The chief adviser will make the issues clear in his speech to the nation," communications adviser Ghulam Quader told reporters after submitting a report on pre-dialogue talks to the chief adviser.

Dhaka, April 30 (bdnews24.com) - Barrister Shafique Ahmed was elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association with a huge lead over his nearest contender advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, according to official results released early Wednesday.

Barrister Shafique won 589 votes, with Mahbub trailing behind with 431. But the polls results on the election of SCBA secretary ran into controversy.

The severe cyclonic storm Nargis over the west central and southwest Bay of Bengal has moved northeastwards, according to a special weather bulletin issued Wednesday morning, reports agency.

The cyclonic storm was centred at 0900 about 1,075 kms southwest of Chittagong port, 1,015 kms southwest of Cox's Bazar port and 960 kms south-southwest of Mongla port, the meteorological department said in its bulletin.

Chief adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed Wednesday asked related agencies to take preparation and remain alert against cyclone Nargis, feared to intensify further, reports bdnews24.com.

The directive came from a cabinet meeting at the Chief Adviser's Office after defence secretary Kamrul Hasan briefed advisers on the Bay cyclone in detail, CA's press secretary Syed Fahim Munaim told reporters.

A Dhaka court deferred the expected verdict in a graft case against former president HM Ershad, former state minister AKM Mosharraf Hossain and four others Wednesday, as the judge was absent due to illness, reports agency.

Bench clerk Md Rafiqul Islam of Dhaka Divisional Special Judges' Court set a new verdict date od May 12 in the judge's absence. Ershad appeared in court around 11.30am but police failed to produce AKM Mosharraf Hossain from Kashimpur jail.

Reuters, Algiers- OPEC President Chakib Khelil does not rule out oil prices reaching $200 a barrel, even though supply is adequate, because the market is driven by the dollar's slide, Algerian government newspaper El Moudjahid reported on Monday.

"Questioned about a possible rise which would go to $200, the minister did not rule out this eventuality, explaining that this rise is indexed from now on to the fall in the dollar or to the rise in the dollar," El Moudjahid reported.
