The fair is also known as Baruni fair. In fact, there is a ghat in the village Ghoshbila under Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district which is considered a holy place by the Hindus as a legend says that the goddess Ganga once appeared here. Since then a fair has been organized at that place to commemorate the day of her arrival. A lot of people gather at that place on the occasion of the fair. People come to the ghat and take a bath in the Kumar River and feel that it is as holy as a Ganga holy bath. The fair is held twice a year, in the Bengali months of Ashar and Chaitra. The fair has now turned into a village fair. Dolls made of clay, coloured earth pots, toys, hand fans and sweets are mainly exhibited and sold. It is a popular fair for the residents of Ghoshbila and of the adjacent locality. |
