Prince Charles Agrees To Attend D-Day Anniversary PDF Print E-mail

Britain's Prince Charles will attend a ceremony to mark the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings after French officials failed to invite Queen Elizabeth, causing a brief diplomatic spat.

A spokeswoman for Charles confirmed he would attend the June 6 commemoration as a guest of President Nicolas Sarkozy. US President Barack Obama will also attend the anniversary.

The fair, organised by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries, will be inaugurated by trade minister Faruq Khan at 11am.

Lord Krishna's birth anniversary or Janmastami will be celebrated on Sunday, being marked by a public holiday.

According to the Hindu faith, Lord Krishna descended to this world some 5,500 years ago with a vow to establish love, truth and justice. Hindu devotees will celebrate the day of his 'birth' on earth with countrywide festivals.

The organisations have asked the state to recognise and support the puja as a national event.
