An endangered river dolphin was beaten to death by fishermen at Kainmari canal under Mongla upazila in Bagerhat on Monday morning.

The fishermen netted the dolphin near the Sunderban mangrove forest and beat it to death as they had not seen this kind of creature before.

A group then tried to sell it as a rare fish, before giving up and dumping it outside the Sundarban Museum.

Director of the museum said if there was no additional formality he could preserve the dolphin in the museum. A large number of people gathered there to see the rare animal.
