A truck has ploughed through a jubilant procession of cricket fans in the city's Banani area, killing a young man and injuring 10 others.

Three more fans were also injured in another accident at Shahbagh as they took out a procession after Bangladesh's victory in the crucial World Cup match against Ireland on Friday night.

Thousands of frenzied cricket fans burst into wild celebrations taking out jubilant processions at different places of the country after the exciting 27-run win by Tigers.

Sub-inspector Mozammel Haq of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp told that 11 fans were injured as a sand-laden truck hit them from behind near Banani footbridge around 1am on Saturday.

One of the injured, aged about 28, died after he was taken to the DMCH. The body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

At Shahbag, three fans were injured as a bus hit them from behind during the celebrations of Tigers' victory around the same time, he said.
