Old Dhaka Blaze Kills 13 PDF Print E-mail

At least 13 people, including four women and seven children, have died in a fire at a plastic factory and several buildings at Kayettuli of Agamasi lane in Old Dhaka.

The fire broke out around 9pm on Thursday.

Six of them have been named as Shamsunnahar, 35, her daughters 'Aditi', 7, and 'Seuti', 9; 'Babu', 35, Hassan Siraji, 35, and three-year-old Sonu.
Three more children, as many women and a man male could not be immediately identified.

The bodies were sent to Dhaka medical College Hospital for autopsy.

At 10:50pm fire service and civil defence director general Brig Gen Abu Nayeem Mohammed Shahidullah told that the fire was under control.

"Rescue operations are on."

He earlier said 12 fire units from Sadarghat, Lalbagh and Mohammadpur rushed to the scene.

Reinforcements were being sent, he added.

The death counts may rise, said firefighters.
