'Zia' Removed From Name Plaque PDF Print E-mail

The word 'Zia' was removed from the name plaque 'Zia International Airport' on the terminal building of the airport on Monday at 8:30pm, airport directors said.

The name was removed following a government decision, they told bdnews24.com, preferring not to be named.

Civil Aviation Authority began its process to rename Zia International Airport after receiving a circulation from the ministry of civil aviation and tourism.

A weekly cabinet meeting, chaired by prime minister Sheikh Hasina, decided to rename it Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport on Feb 15. The new name took effect the same day.

Former president Abdus Sattar named Dhaka International Airport after former president Ziaur Rahman in 1983.
